About my background

Born in the U.S., raised in China. My international school friends will tell you I was always artsy, painting theater sets backstage and planting easter eggs in the yearbook InDesign files.

Now I live in SF and design software for a living. It's my dream job! I have 5+ years of experience and 6 years studying graphic, industrial, and interaction design, plus internships in NYC, London, Shanghai, and Kunming.

When I'm not designing, I'm probably petting a stray cat, on a photo walk, or booking my next dive trip.

I was a part of the founding team for an early stage startup that created an emotionally intelligent AI. I was the lead designer for iOS and web features and owned the visual design execution for the team.

I worked for a national award-winning regional planning company. Projects frequently included large document layout design, website design, email campaigns, city project brand identities, public workshops, and IT/admin support. During my semester abroad, I interned at a London-based design agency, helping rebrand client identities with illustration and custom typography. I also constructed website content, UI/UX prototypes, and mocked up product merchandise.

During my summer in NYC, I formatted key art for SYFY shows and original movies, and concepted and designed event merchandise (including swag), primarily for 2019 San Diego Comic Con.

🥟 GROWING UP IN CHINA

Despite being half Chinese and living there for 17+ years, constantly being labeled the 'outsider' has allowed me to empathize deeply with diverse user groups. Oddly enough, I feel the most at home when I'm in a foreign place.

🚴 BIKES & MOTOBIKES

I've had more than my fair share of flat tires. And a little motorcycle incident on a steep SF hill (no one was hurt!). But I still love anything on two wheels. Let's swap bike stories!

🌏 INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

24 countries & counting! Some favorite memories are bioluminescent swimming in Thailand and hiking through the windswept cliffs of Wales.

🌱 TEACHING ENGLISH

I've tutored English weekly for over 5 years, from six to thirty year olds. It's so rewarding seeing the students' confidence grow. And who knew you could make Jeopardy and bingo in Figma :)

☕ ANYTHING SHANGHAI

The snaking rivers throughout. The little blue bike shares. The maglev train. The lightscape of the night skyline. Bouldering on the West Bund. The Bund. Its record for the most coffee shops IN THE WORLD. I can go on. Planning a Shanghai trip? I gotchu.
